Vijayawada: Former Agriculture Minister Vadde Sobhanadreeswara Rao opined that the government’s price of Rs 6,000 per tonne on onions is not sufficient for farmers.

Speaking to The Hans India, he said the government should pay Rs 10,000 per tonneand collect the produce directly from the farmers in the areas where onion crop is cultivated more.

Stating that the farmers are spending Rs 45,000 per acre on onion cultivation, he said the farmers are incurring losses due to low price.

Presently middlemen are looting the farmers’ money while public too bearing high amount from unhealthy market trends, he explained.
