Tirupati: To provide basic amenities at Anganwadi centres, the Collector and officials of the Revenue department have visited Anganwadis in 1,363 gram panchayats in the district on Friday night, as part of ‘Palle Nidra’ programme.
Highlights:
- More than 2,000 govt staff including Collector visit Anganwadi centres
- Power supply provided to 1,824 Anganwadis, water facility to 1,153 centres
- Remaining Anganwadis will be covered in the next 2 to 3 days, says Collector
District Collector PS Pradyumna visited four Anganwadi centres whereas the Joint Collector went to Bodabandla in Bangarupalem mandal. Joint Collector II VR Chandramouli inspected Anganwadi centre at Tallapalle in Gangavaram mandal and Sub Collector Vetri Selvi to Ramacharlapalle in Madanapalle mandal. More than 2,000 officials of various levels in Revenue department including teachers were entrusted with the task of inspecting Anganwadi centres.
The objective behind ‘Palle Nidra’ programme was to provide drinking water and electricity to 2,500 Anganwadis in a single day. These facilities will be extended to all the 4,768 centres in the district. The Collector reached Konapalle gram panchayat at 10 pm on Friday night and visited the Anganwadi centre. He also inspected another centre at Narravuru.
He enquired with the staff about the amenities available for kids. In Narravuru, electrical bulbs were fixed at Anganwadi centre. He directed officials concerned to provide them on a permanent basis by Saturday morning. The women in the village met the Collector and brought their problems to his notice. He assured them of resolving their issues at the earliest.
The officials were saying that the programme was a success as it achieved the expected targets. According to official sources, 1,824 centres were provided with power supply and 1,153 centres with water facility during the ‘Palle Nidra’ programme.
Still, 765 centres need to get electricity and water supply to 1,075 centres. However, 2,684 centres were not having toilet facility and 3,883 centres need furniture.
The Collector asked the authorities to provide basic amenities in all the remaining centres within next 2 to 3 days. Speaking to The Hans India, PS Pradyumna expressed satisfaction over the programme. He said, according to government’s orders every official should participate in ‘Palle Nidra’ programme.
During discussions on what can be achieved in one night, officials have decided to provide basic amenities at Anganwadis like electricity and water supply which can be fixed in four to five hours, he opined. The Collector stated that ‘Palle Nidra’ gave immense satisfaction to the officials and people also felt happy that officers are at their service. “Going by statistics, it is a big success and this type of theme based night halts will be planned in future too,” asserted the Collector.
