As many six persons including a woman, who are suspected to be suffering from Cutaneous Anthrax Lesions, hailing from Dumbriguda mandal of Visakhapatnam district were admitted in Dermatology Department of King George Hospital in the cityon Monday evening.

Visakhapatnam: As many six persons including a woman, who are suspected to be suffering from Cutaneous Anthrax Lesions, hailing from Dumbriguda mandal of Visakhapatnam district were admitted in Dermatology Department of King George Hospital in the cityon Monday evening.

The patients have been identified as T Donnu (37), M Ranthu (60), T Somoni (55), K Gasi (56), J Srinivasarao (42) and T Raju (40).The Smears from the lesions and the screening blood samples were taken for investigation. These patients were kept in isolation ward and being treated with antibiotics and regular dressings. According to hospital sources, the condition of all the six patients is stable and there is no spread of the disease.

Dr Sivakalyani, Associate Prof of Microbiology and Nodal Officer, was informed for further confirmation of the Anthrax Bacillus in consultation with the Defence Research & Development Establishment Department (DRDE) Gwalior in Madhya Pradesh.

KGH Superintendent Dr G Arjuna and Andhra Medical College Principal Dr PV Sudhakar visited the Dermatology ward on Monday evening and interacted with the patients as well as instructed the doctors and nursing personnel to take special care. All the six persons were said to have consumed meat of dead goat and developed characteristic Antrax lesion over the hands, legs and face.
