Rayachoti (Kadapa): Problems have arisen in the digging for the Srinivasapuram Reservoir’s right and left canals following confusion and lack of clarity on the beneficiaries, who have given up their lands.
After the government sanctioned compensation at some spots, while some persons have been found to be genuinely involved in agricultural operations for several decades, some are allegedly trying to secure the compensation by adapting shortcut methods in having acquired the land pattas.
Retired VRO allegedly trying to usurp the assigned land and pocket the compensation at the rate of Rs 17 lakh per acre, by creating passbooks and new records, erasing the names of old beneficiaries. He has allegedly created benami pattas in the names of his relatives and friends
Among such fraudsters is a retired village revenue officer, who is allegedly playing a major role in the racket to claim compensation. The reservoir was constructed in 2005 at a cost of Rs 308 crore in Chinna Mandem mandal under the Handri-Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (HNSS) scheme.
The contractor and officials concerned were fined after irregularities were found to have been committed during the construction. Now, work of the canals is on to provide irrigation facilities in 27,000 acres in Chinna Mandem, Santepalli, Rayachoti, Lakkireddipally and Ramapuram mandals. Land acquisition for the canals has become a problem, as the digging covered 70 per cent assigned land.
While some farmers came forward to offer their lands for the canals, the officer in question entered the scene and is allegedly trying to usurp the assigned land and pocket the compensation at the rate of Rs 17 lakh per acre, by creating passbooks and new records, erasing the names of old beneficiaries. He has allegedly created benami pattas in the names of his relatives and friends.
Consequently, many farmers in Pedda Kalvapalli, Lower Kothapalli, Gorlamudiveedu, Variga, Yendlapalli, and Musapet areas in Rayachoti mandal lost their lands to the fraudster. Reddy allegedly got the benami pattas in the names of his relatives and friends. Speaking to The Hans India, farmers including Nandaluri Gangi Reddy, Vishnuvardhan Reddy, Sivasankar Reddy and Pramilamma demanded immediate intervention of the higher officials to ensure that justice is done to them.
