Jagannadhachary tried to commit suicide pouring kerosene on himself as the doors of the borrowers were locked. Residents of the colony foiled his attempt and informed the local police.

Nellore: A priest who failed to recover his hand loan from a family for the last three years had tried to commit suicide in front of the borrower’s house at Children’s Park area here on Tuesday. Jagannadhachary tried to commit suicide pouring kerosene on himself as the doors of the borrowers were locked. Residents of the colony foiled his attempt and informed the local police.

According to sources, Uppala Jagannadhachary (65), who hails from Dhanalakshmi Puram area, has been working as a priest in Muralikrishna Mandir near Children’s Park in the city.

Earlier, he worked in a private company and retired in 2011. After his retirement, he got Rs 10 lakh from the company as superannuation benefits. He said, “Sasikala along with her relatives B K Jyothi and P Madhavi Latha contacted me to take the entire amount of Rs 10 from me as loan. They offered Re 3 interest per month but they did not pay interest nor returned amount.”
