Vijayawada: The city police arrested six persons in connection with different robbery cases in the city and recovered cash and gold ornaments from their possession.

In the first case, the crime police arrested two persons Mekala Kishore and I Krishna both residents of Vagu Centre, Kothapeta and seized 40 grams of gold worth Rs 5 lakh, Rs.3.45 lakh cash and 450 Canada dollars from their possession.

Joint Commissioner of Police B V Ramana Kumar told reporters here on Tuesday that the duo was working as auto drivers and construction workers and recently started criminal activities. He said Mekala Kishore had earlier worked in Hotel Manorama seven years and got aware of the movement of the hotel cashier. He decided to rob cash bag from the cashier and cleverly lifted the bag which contains the cash.

The police arrested the duo while they were moving suspiciously at Governorpet and questioned. They confessed to the crime. Joint Commissioner of police said they would be produced in the court.

In another incident, crime police arrested a gang of four who resorted to house breaking incidents in different parts of the city and Vuyyur and recovered 12 grams gold worth Rs.65,000 and Rs.3,000 cash. The four accused were identified as D Durga Prasad, Anasuri Manikantha, P Venkata Ratnam alias Ravi and Koppula Gopiraju.

The gang was arrested under Satyanarayanapuram police station limits. They were involved in house breakings and lifting of cash from kiosks and petty shops while breaking the doors during the night time, said B V Ramana Kumar.
