Drunk driver plunges car into canal, five women and a child killed

In a tragic road accident, a child and five women lost their lives when the car they were travelling plunged into a canal.

The mishap took place near Kovvali village of Denduluru mandal in West Godavari district on Thursday afternoon.

As per the reports, the driver was in an inebriated condition at the time of the accident. The car had a group of seven women and a child who were returning from a function at Kovvali to Chellapally in Vijayawada.

Locals rushed into help as soon as the car plunged into the canal but with the passengers getting trapped in the vehicle, only the driver and two women managed to escape. The driver was handed over to the police after noticing the driver being drunk.
