The government is initiating steps to issue a notification to merge 21 surrounding villages of Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC) shortly and the file was pending with office of Chief Minister.According to sources, the issue came to light during the recent visit of Chief Minister to the city and after merging the villages, the city will get \'greater status\'.

Rajamahendravaram: The government is initiating steps to issue a notification to merge 21 surrounding villages of Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC) shortly and the file was pending with office of Chief Minister.
According to sources, the issue came to light during the recent visit of Chief Minister to the city and after merging the villages, the city will get 'greater status'.

Ten villages in Rajamahendravaram Rural mandal, four villages each in Rajanagaram and Korukonda mandals and three villages in Sitanagaram mandal will be merged in the corporation. The villages proposed to be merged are--Bommuru, Hukumpeta, Dowleswaram, Rajavolu, Konthamuru, Kolamuru, Katheru, Torredu, Rajanagaram, Velugubanda, Chakradwarabandham, Sitanagaram, Lalachervu, Diwanchervu, Srirampuram, Pidimgoyyi, Satellite City, Venkatnagaram, Torredu, Palacharla, Narendrapuram, Gadala, Madhurapudi, Burugupudi and Nidigatla.

The corporation also devised a master plan including for merged villages, for which the municipal administration department given its consent also. The corporation is taking steps to divide the existing divisions along with creating new zones or circles. The number of divisions will be increased to 100 from the existing 50 divisions.

At present, all the 21 villages are under the administrative control of in-charge sub-collector and municipal commissioner V Vijayarama Raju. Special officers of respective villages are taking care of building plans, sanitation, street lighting in the villages.
