Six die as car jumps into water tank
Six persons including a two-year-old girl child killed on the spot and three others were injured when the car they were travelling jumped into Kuntala Cheruvu, a water tank on the outskirts of Kovvali village of Denduluru mandal in West Godavari on Thursday. All the killed were women.

The victims, who belonged to same family, were identified as Chinnala Lakshmi Nancharamma,55, Chinnala Tanyasri, 2, Chinnala Devi, 25, Chinnala Vijayalakshmi, 55, Chinnala Sulochana, 62 and Chinnala Kumari,50 and are residents of Mallavalli village of Bapulapadu mandal, Krishna district. Chinnala Lakshmi and Chinnala Shanmukh received injuries and were shifted to Eluru Government Hospital.
According to police, nine members boarded the ill-fated Scorpio at Mallavalli village in Bapulapadu mandal of Krishna district on Thursday to attend a function in Kovvali village and returned at 2.30 in the afternoon. When the Scorpio reached the outskirts, the driver lost control on wheel and jumped into the Kuntala Cheruvu. In the mishap, the car submerged in water tank.
Based on the information, in-charge Collector P Koteswara Rao, Eluru DSP Gogula Venkateswara Rao, Rural CI Adapa Nagamurali visited the spot and inquired about the incident.
The bodies were sent to Eluru Government Hospital for post-mortem after the inquest. Denduluru police registered a case. The driver was at large, police added.
