Vizag special court to try Vakapalle rape case
The trial case of Vakapalle gang rape has been handed over to the Special Court on SC and ST Atrocities (Prevention) Act in the city. The case would be tried soon as the Supreme Court, setting aside the plea of Greyhounds police personnel, has taken a serious view of the delay.

The case was pending since 10 years. It may be recalled that 11 tribal women of Vakapalli were allegedly raped by the commandos of elite anti-naxal force Greyhounds on August 21, 2007. Finally, the apex court on September 1 asked the Paderu Court to conduct fast trial and complete within six months.
The court also insisted the trial on day-to-day basis.The case came to Paderu Judicial First Class Magistrate Court on Thursday and in-charge judge Pardhasarathi, the regular judge of Chodavaram court, conducted the proceedings and later transferred it to Special Session Court of SC and ST cases as the Paderu court has no jurisdiction to conduct trial of SC and ST Act cases.
Earlier, the 13 accused police personnel were acquitted by the High Court another eight persons were given bail as they submitted surety bonds to the court on Thursday.
Generally, when FIR was registered against anybody on the charges of rape, the accused should be arrested first. But here in this case, no arrests were made or the accused had sought the anticipatory bail till date.
The 13 accused police personnel approached the Supreme Court on August 31 of 2012 pleading for quashing the case against them after High Court ordered trial should be commence against the 13 accused in April 2012.
