Pithapuram: The 12th Additional District Judge G Lakshminarasimha Reddy on Saturday called upon the people to respect rights of fellow citizens and fulfil their duty towards society.

He was the chief guest at a human rights awareness programme held at Chelikani Bhavana Rao Sabha Sadan of Suryaraya Vidyananda Grandhalayam here. The programme was held under the aegis of the Human Rights Council of India. Speaking on the occasion, he called upon people to be aware of the rights guaranteed by the Constitution. Several rights have been enshrined under Article 14 of the statute.

Anyone can seek legal remedy if his or her rights are infringed upon. He welcomed the people to approach the free Legal Service Authority set up on the premises of the court here. Human Rights Council of India state chairperson Korukonda Padma said that the council arranges awareness programmes at mandal and village level and called upon the service-oriented persons to associate with the council. District unit of the council president PVSSN Murthy presided.

YSRCP leader Gandepalli Rama Rao participated. The district unit of the council president called upon people to report violation of human rights using the toll-free number 1800 2000 595. They complaint will be received and advice will be given and support the victim for fighting a legal battle.

Legal adviser Bolisetty Gourimani, sarpanches of Gokivada, Jalluru, Virava and LN Puram villages participated in the programme.
