Miraculous escape for 60 bus passengers

Banaganapalli (Kurnool): Sixty passengers had miraculous escape when a Road Transportation Corporation (RTC) bus overturned while crossing a bridge built on Paleru Lake at Sanjamala village on Saturday.

According to KovelakuntlaBus Depot Manager J Srinivasa Rao, the bus boarded with 60 passengers was said to be heading towards Tadipathri from Kovelakuntla. The bus had to cross a bridge built on Paleru Lake at Sanjamala village to reach Tadipathri in Anantapur district.

But, when the bus reached the lake it was in full spate due to rain water. However, the bus driver without properly estimating the danger, ventured to cross the bridge, stated Srinivasa Rao. When the bus reached the middle ofbridge, it began to overturn due to heavy currents. The driver unable to control the steering lost control and eventually the bus overturned.

All the 60 passengers in the bus raised alarm and the locals and police came to their aid. In the meantime, the passengers broke the window panes and tried to come out of the bus, said the Depot Manager.However, with the timely help of police and locals, all the passengers were rescued except with minor injuries to two or three passengers. The passengers blamed the RTC officials for allowing the bus on the route despite knowing the hidden danger.
