Bhimavaram: The Chalo Garagaparru call given by various Dalit Associations created tension in the village of Palakoderu mandal on Friday following the restrictions by the police. The police have promulgated Section 144 CrPC and Section 30 of Police Act in the village. The police arrested Mala Mahanadu State Committee President Nalli Rajesh, Vyshya Karmika Sangham district president Gorla Ramakrishna and four others as a precautionary measure and shifted them to police station.

The police have cordoned off all the routes leading to Garagaparru, which was in news for the social boycott issue. The police arranged six check-posts outside the village and denied entry to any person who did not possess any identity card. They also did not allow the Dalits from outside village without any proper ID card.

The police took Nalli Rajeshkumar, president of AP Mala Mahanadu, who gave the call of Chalo Garagaparru into their custody at Bhimavaram.

The Dalits planned a rally to Garagaparru from Bhimavaram. However, the police obstructed the rally and a scuffle broke out between police and Dalits and three Dalits jumped into Yanamadurru drain. However, they swam safely out of it. The Dalits squatted on the Yanamadurru bridge and raised slogans against the police.

KVPS district leaders KarumanchiKrantibabu, division leader Injeti Srinivas, struggle committee member Ericharla Rajesh said that the government should give clear assurance of solving Dalit problems. Until then they won’t withdraw their agitation.

The Dalits stated that the assurances given by team of ministers were so far not implemented and demanded to pay compensation for all Dalits in the village. They also demanded the government pay compensation to road accident victim

Yacob family and demanded reinstallation of Dr BR Ambedkar statue. Narsapuram DSP G Poornachandra Rao asked them to give their demands in writing to bring them to the notice of government. With this assurance, the Dalits have withdrawn their agitation and relay hunger strike.
