The successor state of Andhra Pradesh is likely to showcase its ‘exciting’ growth story at a special session of the United Nations to be held in New York soon. Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar on Sunday said Niti Aayog recommended AP for unveiling its growth story at the “special honour” after taking into account its double digit growth.
Amaravati: The successor state of Andhra Pradesh is likely to showcase its ‘exciting’ growth story at a special session of the United Nations to be held in New York soon. Chief Secretary Dinesh Kumar on Sunday said Niti Aayog recommended AP for unveiling its growth story at the “special honour” after taking into account its double digit growth.
A senior executive from Niti Aayog told the CS that AP was under active consideration of the Centre for representation in the upcoming UN session Around 100 countries are expected to take part in the session.The state posted a 11.72 growth rate in the first quarter of the current financial year over the national GVA (gross value addition) average of 5.5 per cent in the Q1.
According to the Chief Secretary, the Niti Aayog exuded confidence that AP could meet all the 17 goals prescribed by the UN pertaining to sustainable development activities. UNO reportedly asked the Union government to name any state which is showing an impressive performance in sustainable development activities, thus AP was chosen for the ‘rare honour’.
Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu in a teleconference with senior officials in this connection expressed his strong resolve to make way for a reverse brain drain from the western countries by making the state economically capable of beckoning its sons of the soil who went abroad in pursuit of greener pastures.
He said the initiatives like the linking of the Godavari and the Krishna rivers through the Pattiseema lift scheme, major irrigation initiatives like the Polavaram project, a solar park with 1,000mw in Kurnool will realise the state’s development goals.
