Mild tension prevailed at the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada on Monday when the police forcibly detained SFI activists who staged a protest demanding the government to take action on the staff and management of Narayana College for the death of intermediate second year IIT campus student P Eswar Reddy, who died in a hostel on Sunday in Gudavalli on the outskirts of Vijayawada.

Vijayawada: Mild tension prevailed at the Government General Hospital in Vijayawada on Monday when the police forcibly detained SFI activists who staged a protest demanding the government to take action on the staff and management of Narayana College for the death of intermediate second year IIT campus student P Eswar Reddy, who died in a hostel on Sunday in Gudavalli on the outskirts of Vijayawada.

Eswar Reddy hails from Pidiguralla of Guntur district. Police forcibly detained the SFI activists and took away from the hospital as the latter had alleged that the police adopted biased attitude over the incident.

The police allowed staff of Narayana college to the mortuary and prevented SFI activists from going to the mortuary when they tried to speak to parents and relatives of Eswar Reddy.

The hospital doctors conducted post-mortem on the body of student in the hospital on Monday. On Sunday, the student was found dead in suspicious condition with injuries on the legs in the hostel room. The student was reportedly beaten and humiliated by staff for his poor performance in education. The college authorities have announced the student committed suicide.

But, his father Pingali Mallareddy has alleged that the college staff had murdered his son. He along with his wife Mangamma and other relatives came to the GGH to take the body after conducting post-mortem by hospital doctors on Monday.

Mallareddy alleged the college management had not given information to him about the death of his son and stated that his son is a sharp student and joined the Narayana college with a view to get quality education.

He further said some students belongs to Manchikallu village of Guntur district informed him over the death of Eswar Reddy. He said some injuries were also visible on the legs and made it clear that his son was brutally murdered and he did not commit suicide.

SFI state vice-president M Mahesh and secretary M Someswara Rao alleged the police forcibly detained the SFI activists as they demanded justice to the family of the student.

They further demanded that Minister Narayana should be sacked from Cabinet and stringent action should be taken on the staff responsible for the death of Eswar Reddy.
