Amaravati: Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu said officials should focus on achieving water security in the state besides surplus in power production as both the targets are vital in achieving financial stability.

Speaking with officials through a teleconference on Monday, Chandrababu Naidu said the state had already achieved surplus production in power sector and the water security should be top priority to officials.

He said the State recorded 11.72 per cent Gross Value Addition (GVA) in the first quarter of this fiscal which was higher than the Country’s average GVA because of good progress in agriculture- allied sectors.

“Rainfall in the state is encouraging and projects are receiving good inflows from upstream areas. There is around 80 tmc ft of water in Srisailam and another 25 tmcft of water is expected from Upper Krishna. The water level in Tungabhadra also is increasing. So officials should prepare plans on release of water from projects” he said.

The CM said the state government aimed to provide water security to rainfed agriculture too. Officials must focus on the task of increase of ground water levels and use rain gun technology and mobile lifts for efficient water management. “The government would spend Rs 1,500 Cr for Neeru-Pragathi programme as part of efficient water management in the state” he said.

Naidu also directed officials to prepare plans to save crops in the backdrop of warnings from ISRO over three cyclones between October third week and November first week. He also suggested officials to take all possible measures for providing minimum support price to onion farmers in Kurnool district.

Chandrababu Naidu said the opposition was trying to block the funds to state under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme by sending false complaints to Centre. “Works should be done in transparent manner and maintain records properly. Works should be planned for utilise funds of Rs 7,500 Cr of MNREGS”, he said.
