Srikakulam: Division bench of the High Court (HC) at Hyderabad for the state of Telangana and AP on Tuesday issued orders to Srikakulam district officials not to damage standing crops in Vamsadhara Project affected villages till harvest stage.

Human rights forum (HRF) vice-president KV Jagannadha Rao filed public interest litigation (PIL) on behalf of farmers of Garlapadu, Tulagam, Padali, Duggupuram and Chinnasankili villages in Hiramandalam mandal through his advocate Vasudha Nagaraj. Taking up hearing on the PIL, the High Court directed Srikakulam district Judge to appoint a Senior Civil Judge for inspection of standing crops in the villages.

On the HC orders, the Senior Civil Judge verified lands in the five villages on Saturday and reported the matter to the HC on Monday explaining that there existed standing crops in the villages. During the final hearing on the PIL on Tuesday, HC division bench directed Srikakulam District Collector, land acquisition and engineering officials not to damage crops till its harvest stage.
