Visakhapatnam: President of GITAM Dr MVVS Murthi emphasised the need for safe driving. He advised those who cross 18 years to take driving licence.

He participated at Learner’s Licence (LLR) Mela organised by the District Transport Department at GITAM University here on Tuesday to issue LLRs on spot through e-Pragathi programme. While issuing the LLRs to students the GITAM president advised the students to drive carefully and responsibly to avoid accidents. He hoped that the people would follow the traffic rules. He appreciated the road transport authorities for choosing an innovative way to issue driving licences.

Deputy Transport Commissioner (DTC) B Venkateswara Rao disclosed that they issued 500 LLRs in a single day through e-Pragathi programme and concentrating more on educational institutions.

He said that youth who crossed 18 years can use the opportunity to take driving licence by producing Aadhaar card, SSC certificate, residence proof and those who crossed 50 years can avail the facility by producing doctor’s certificate. The department has been visiting the educational institutions, offices for spot registrations, the DTC said. Most of the youngsters in the city were driving the vehicles without licence and causing accidents.

GITAM University Vice-Chancellor MS Prasada Rao, Pro Vice-Chancellor K Sivaramakrishna, Registrar M Potharaju, Student Affairs Director K Veerabhadram and Institute of Technology Pricnipal K Lakshmiprasad were also present.
