Guntur: Deputy Speaker in the State Legislative Assembly Mandali Buddha Prasad felt that there was a need to carry out research studies on Telugu language before Nannaya Bhattu. He addressed a meeting held on 'Gautama Buddhudu -Telugu Sanskruthika Phalanam' held at JKC College premises in the city on Wednesday. Speaking on the occasion, he said that Buddhism made a profound impact on Telugu language and literature in the 19th century.

Kendra Sahithya Academy award recipient Dr Papineni Shiva Shankarsaid that Gautama Buddha was a great spiritual leader and visionary who opposed caste and religion while stressing on strengthening the moral character of man.

He said Buddhism threw light on several aspects of Telugu literature. He welcomed the decision of Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu to name the state capital as Amaravati.

Poet Dr. N Gopi said that the literature on Buddhism did not get the popularity that it deserved when compared to Buddha sculptures in Amaravati, Nagarjunakonda, Bhattiprolu and Ghantasala. Kendra Sahitya Academy Regional Secretary S P Lingeswar, JKC College Secretary J Murali Mohan and others were present on the occasion.
