Visakhapatnam: Passengers can now make transactions visiting Point of Sale (PoS) machines arranged at several railway counters and e-Wallets at all the stalls at the railway station. They were opened on Wednesday.
Divisional Railway Manager Mukul Saran Mathur after opening the services, announced that Visakhapatnam Railway Station as 100 per cent Digital Payment Enabled (Digi PAY) Station.
Visakhapatnam Railway Station is one of the major railway stations in East Coast Railway which handles 118 trains per day, receives more than 60,000 footfalls and more than 80,000 per day during the festive season generating revenue of more than Rs 30 lakhs per day. Being the hub of educational centres, industrial hub, tourism destination, the city has potential to move towards DiGi payments.
Mathur later told reporters that Digi-Pay services were provided at the general ticket booking counters, reservation complex, water vending machines, cloakrooms, coffee, tea stalls, ATMs, parking, parcel office, book stalls, fruit juice stalls, pay and use toilets and other points on the station premises.
“The service is first in the East Coast Railway and fourth in entire country”, he said.Mathur also mentioned that State Bank of India provided help desks and information booths for the promotion of digital transaction to the passengers. He appealed to the public to use this facility for the hassle-free journey and to join hands to make the dream of a Digital India- Digital Rail into a reality.
After the official launch of the Digi-Rail campaign, the DRM inspected various stalls and railway counters to check the usage and working of Digi-Pay services. During this campaign, appreciation certificates will be given to the Digi-Pay customers along with paper caps to encourage the users. A signature campaign on Digital rail was also organised on this occasion where the participants appreciated efforts by Waltair Division towards cashless transaction.
