Kurnool: Inspector General of Police (Kurnool Range) Shaik Mohammed Iqbal has launched a novel initiative to keep the environment of schools and colleges clean and tidy.

Speaking to The Hans India here on Wednesday, the IG said that students have to be taught lessons on how to keep their surroundings clean and tidy. Iqbal said that he would hold discussions with district Collectors falling under his purview of Kurnool, Kadapa, Anantapur and Chittoor for sanctioning of funds.

During a period of three months of taking charge as Kurnool Range IG, Iqbal has visited the Kurnool Medical College and saw the filthy surroundings near the women’s hostel. He called upon the voluntary organisations to clean up the surroundings. He also got a dilapidated building demolished on the way to the women’s hostel by the municipal authorities.

The IG also visited Kasireddy Venkata Reddy (KVR) Government Degree College for Women and involved the students in the mission. He said the college building served as the Raj Bhavan when Kurnool was the capital of united Andhra Pradesh from 1953 to 1956.

Expressing concern over the lack of facilities in the college, the IG said it was very unfortunate to see such a famous college languishing with insufficient facilities. After inspecting the college, the IG made arrangements for drinking water and LED light facilities.

Later, he visited the Silver Jubilee College, Government Girls High School and Government BC Hostel at B-Camp and involved voluntary organisations to clean-up the surroundings. With the novel initiative taken by the IG, several people were coming forward to offer help. Superintendent of Police (SP) Gopinath Jetti, Kurnool DSP DV Ramana Murthy and other police officials were
present on the occasion.
