Keeping in view of dry spell and drought conditions faced for the last two years, the State government had supplied silage, Total Mixer Ration (TMR) and fodder to the farmers on subsidy prices so that the cattle growers should not suffer. Andhra Pradesh witnessed severe drought in summer and more than 400 mandals in the State were declared as drought-hit.

Joint Director of Animal Husbandry Department K Gabriel told The Hans India that the department is taking measures like supplying TMR and silage to the farmers to ensure sufficient fodder to the livestock and continue milk production even in summer. Earlier farmers suffered many problems due to shortage of fodder and grass and now there is no need to suffer because the government is taking measures to avoid such problems, he added.

He further said ‘OoruraPasugrasam’ (grass in every village) scheme was taken up in a massive way in 30,000 acres in the State to encourage people to grow grass. Dairy is one of the important sector in the State along with aqua culture and poultry and helping the farming community to strengthen them financially.
