Nellore: A team of officials have raided theatres in the city on Thursday and inspected prices and quality of food items being sold by the managements. Team of officials led by Nellore Tahasildar M Narasimhulu inspected Siri multiplex, Archana, Nartaki, S-2 and also theatres located in M G B Mall.

On Wednesday, the Joint Collector organised a meeting with managements of theatres in city and asked them to follow guidelines of the government. He directed the officials to book cases against errant management, who violate rules. There were complaints that even 500 ml water bottle was also being sold at Rs 40 above MRP price. As part of the plans, officials observed conditions of sanitation in the theatres and inspected quality of food items in theatre halls.

Officials have also enquired about prices of tickets and manufacturing dates of food products in the canteens located in the theatres.

It may be recalled that consumers in the city had lodged numerous complaints against the theatre managements on huge prices of eateries in theatres above MRP.

Narasimhulu said that they would submit a report to the Joint Collector. He also explained that they had inspected food items and eateries in the theatres in the city. Municipal Sanitary Officer Siva Nageswar Rao, quality control officers and legal metrology officials participated in the raids.
