Srikakulam: Students can realise their dreams by utilising the facilities available at BR Ambedkar University, said registrar Prof Gunta Tulasi Rao.

“We are overcoming hurdles by according priority to quality education,” he said. He shared his views and plans with The Hans India on Thursday in the wake of the university’s first convocation which will be held here on Saturday.

Elaborating on the history of the university, registrar said that it was started with two courses as PG Centre at Srikakulam
Government Degree College for men in 1977-78 academic year.

Later, the PG Centre got its own campus at Etcherla near Srikakulam in 1989 and was shifted where the university is being run and four other courses were introduced.

Some other courses were added in 1993-94 and 2006 – 07 academic years and it was upgraded into an independent university in 2008. Now, the university is being run with 20 PG courses, six diploma courses in addition to it, the BRAU having affiliated authority over 130 under graduate (UG) and post graduate (PG) colleges in which 56,000 students are studying in various courses.

On placement oriented courses and training,      the registrar explained that they signed Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with AP State Skill Development Corporation (APSSDC) to conduct three classes for all PG students weekly to train them for present market and society needs. Particularly for SC studentsm BRAU signed an agreement with AP SC finance corporation (APSCFC) to provide special training to SC students.

On facilities at university, registrar said that they provided computer lab, separate libraries, hostel buildings and playground.
“We will conduct first convocation on September 23 at Anadamayi Hall. Governor ESL Narasimhan, In-Charge Vice-Chancellor Prof Gollapalli Nageswara Rao will present degrees and PhDs for candidates on the occasion,” registrar informed.
