  • Residents forced to get water from Tungabhadra River
  • Panchayat Secretary says motors were burnt up and it will take two more days to restore water supply

From the last week, the people of the Scheduled Caste (SC) Colony were facing severe water shortage and they were even finding it difficult to get it for daily consumption. They are going all the way to the river to fetch a pail of water. This is not the first time that water supply was stopped to SC colony, said one of the locals. Despite making several complaints to the Panchyat Raj department officials, they were being indifferent.

Earlier, water was supplied through tankers but now, there were no traces of such efforts, he lamented. The local also said that water was being supplied only to the upper caste people. Why this discrimination, he questioned. It is nothing but to destroy the communal harmony among the villagers, he alleged.

When The Hans India asked about the stopping of water supply to SC Colony with Nagamani, Panchayat Secretary of Panchalingala, she said that the motors which were installed in the well were burnt up. Prior to the burning of motors, some fuses blew out. The fuses have been repaired and just as the motors were about to start, they too got burnt,
she added.

She said that there were two motors, one 7.5 HP and the other 10 HP installed in the well and the well was dig in the middle of Tungabhadra River. Both the motors were burnt and they have been sent for repairs. It will take another two days to supply water to SC colony, she added.
