Zilla Parishad chairman Edara Haribabu listed the decisions and demands of the general body. He said, “The district is in the clutches of drought and backwardness. We are facing scarcity of drinking and irrigation water. We demand that the government supply six tmc feet of water from the Nagarjunasagar canal by October 1 to meet the demand.

The house passed the resolution that the government should pay the compensation to the chilli farmers who incurred losses last year. As the viral fevers are high in the district, the government should provide blood platelet machines at RIMS as well as the regional health centre in Markapur. About 10 per cent of the MNEGS funds should be attached to the ZP while taking up the development works.”

MLC Karanam Balarama Krishnamurthy asked the general body to come forward to meet the Chief Minister and request his recommendation to the Central government to announce the district as a backward district. The MLC Magunta Srinivasulu Reddy promised to discuss with the government to sanction Rs 250 crore sewerage funds immediately.

Another MLC Pothula Suneetha requested the officials to involve the public representatives in finalising the beneficiaries for various schemes.Bapatla MP Sriram Malyadri, Markapur MLA Janke Venkata Reddy demanded that the medical and health officials to strengthen the primary health centres and provide treatments to viral fevers.

They demanded the local bodies to improve sanitation in the villages to reduce the fevers. MLC Y Srinivasulu Reddy demanded that the house to exert pressure on the State and Central governments for announcement of the district as backward district.

He demanded that the government announce compensation of Rs 519 crore to 16,000 chilli farmers in the district who suffered losses in the last season. He also demanded that the government take over Ongole Dairy and render justice to the employees and dairy farmers.
