Members of ‘Helping hand Hijras Association’ celebrated Durga Puja in a grand manner on Dasara. They have installed a huge Goddess Durga Matha idol at Railway Station Road and organised Navarathri celebrations. They have spent money from their own pockets, of course, it was collected from others, they have been in the Pooja for these nine days, offering pujas to the Goddess Durga.

Vizianagaram: Members of ‘Helping hand Hijras Association’ celebrated Durga Puja in a grand manner on Dasara. They have installed a huge Goddess Durga Matha idol at Railway Station Road and organised Navarathri celebrations. They have spent money from their own pockets, of course, it was collected from others, they have been in the Pooja for these nine days, offering pujas to the Goddess Durga.

The 150 members of the association is spending around Rs 3 lakh for Navrathiris and even organising some dance programmes and others to enthral the public and devotees.

Not only the Durga Puja, recently they have organised a marriage for an orphan girl and spent around Rs 50,000.
K Konda Babu, organising secretary of the society, said “Hijras are even participating in social service also. They are the devotees of Durga Devi and organising Dasara festivities for the past three years. We are spending our own money for this event.”

Meena, Sravanthi, Priya and other members of the society, appealed to people to consider them as part of the society. “We are even ready to work but none of the trader is allowing us to do so. So, we are forced to beg in trains and at bus stations. Any how we are happy to organise the Dasara with our own earned money.”
