The Hyderabad-based organisation commenced its three days playlet competitions for both the Telugu states in Vijayawada.
On the occasion Dr Akkineni Nageswara Rao’s Lifetime Achievement Award was presented to veteran artiste and play writer Gollapudi Maruti Rao.

Participating as chief guest in the programme, Deputy Chief Minister N. Chinarajappa said the theatre arts was flourishing in Andhra Pradesh under the leadership of Chief Minister Nara Chandrababu Naidu.

He opined that the present youth are not paying interest in these live arts and they are aping Western culture. He advised the youth to participate in cultural events to hone their skills.

Deputy Speaker of Andhra Pradesh Dr Mandali Buddha Prasad said that the drama is a powerful media to create awareness among the public. He felt the theatre should be protected and added that many prominent film personalities have come from the stage.

Gollapudi Maruthi Rao expressed his gratitude for choosing him for the award and recollected his affiliation with Vijayawada and said that 47 years back, he got best writer award for his play “Karunichani Devatalu” and playlet “Kallu” from the prestigious Andhra Nataka Kala Parishad conducted in Vijayawada. MP Konakalla Narayana, Gazal Srinivas and KV Krishnakumari were present.

The programme commenced with the playlet “Cheti rata” presented by Jana Chaitanya, Ongole. The playlet was written and directed by Varikuti Sivaprasad. The second playlet staged by Abhinaya Arts, Guntur titled “Sarikotta Manushulu” written by Sistla Chandrasekhar.

Gandham Nagaraju’s script “Anatam” was presented by Rangayatra, Guntur, which was directed by Karanam Suresh. The last playlet showcased on the first day was “Agraham” by Aravinda Arts, Tadepalli. The playlet was penned by Valluri Sivaprasad and directed by Gangotri Sayi.
