Vijayawada: Andhra Pradesh Chess Association general secretary D Srihari on Monday inaugurated Krishna University inter-colleges chess tournament held at KBN College in Vijayawada city.

Speaking on the occasion, he expressed concern over poor students participation in the tournaments. Even 10 per cent of the students are not participating in the tournaments, he said and added the students who participate in the sports will be active and excel in the education also. He urged the educational institutions to give priority to sports.

Krishna University sports department secretary Dr N Srinivasa Rao said though the university recently started, they are conducting 40 per cent of the tournaments and allocating sufficient funds for conducting the tournaments besides providing infrastructure for tournaments.

He said the university students participated in the State-level and national-level tournaments and bagged several prizes and brought name and fame to the university and the state. KBN College Principal V Narayana Rao was also present.
