Kakinada: Andhra Pradesh medical and health minister Dr Kamineni Srinivas launched a free dialysis centre at a cost of three crores rupees in Government General Hospital here on Tuesday.

Speaking on the occasion, Kamineni said that this free dialysis centre is set up so as to compete with corporate hospitals. He said that the old dialysis centre in GGH was renovated and new machinery was established here. Each dialysis machine costs 6.5 lakhs, he added. Kamineni further said that their government established 20 dialysis machines worth 1.30 crores here in the GGH.

He also said that the government has decided to give a pension of Rs 2,500 for every patient who undergoes dialysis in this centre. Kamineni also said that another three more dialysis units would be set up soon at Tuni, Amalapuram and Rampachodavaram in the district.

The minister also said that earlier in all the 13 districts of Andhra Pradesh, there are only 170 dialysis units which are now raised to 600 units. He further said that in Tirupati alone, there are as many as 100 units. Kamineni further said that they have given a contract for the maintenance of this dialysis unit after the bidding.
