Visakhapatnam: Union Minister of State for Social Justice and Empowerment Ramdas Athawale said that the central government was spending Rs 50,000 crores this financial year for the uplift of Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes.Addressing the media in Visakhapatnam on Monday,

Ramdas Athawale said that the Centre has been providing loans to budding entrepreneurs belonging to SC/STs with a subsidy of 75 per cent. He called upon the youth from oppressed communities to strive hard and become entrepreneurs for giving jobs to many.

Earlier in the day, Ramdas Athawale took part in a two-day workshop on "Constitutional Governance - The Predicament of Oppressed Communities in India" being organised by SC and ST Employees Welfare Association of ONGC, in the city.
Pointing out that the dalits are performing pretty well in all the fields, Ramdas recalled the efficient works put up by former Lok Sabha speaker Balayogi, who represented as an MP of Amalapuram.

Later speaking on the occasion, Deputy Chief Minister asked the higher officials of ONGC to take up more CSR works in Amalapuram. He reminded the officials that the people of the region were in non-resistance mode despite the prevailing pollution problems due to the activities of ONGC.

Amalapuram MP P Ravindra Babu said demands should be made to introduce reservations in private sector as the government has been outsourcing most of its works in the era of globalization.Members of SC/ST Welfare Employees Association and others attended the event.
