Nellore: Locked House Monitoring System (LHMS), an app which was introduced by the Police department for monitoring the locked houses with an aim to keep an eye on crimes during the absence of the owners or tenants, is now a puzzle for many people, who uploaded their requests for a vigil as they were not getting any updates.
In fact, android mobiles have become very common now-a-days and the AP police thought that there should be awareness among people how crimes can be prevented through communication to the police during their absence. This would really give a chance to the police personnel to keep a close watch on such houses.
Highlights:
- Once a person registers his name in app and places his request for watch, there is no further update on the status
- Police dept has shortage of devices in order to meet several requests
Actually, it has not been much useful for many people since they were unaware of what kind of information they would get from the department after they registered their names on the app and placed a request for watch. “We have registered our name and placed request for watch on house during absence last month. But, there was neither communication from the police personnel nor any update on the request in the app.
We were in dilemma whether to proceed with the travel or to drop it. Finally, we requested our relatives to keep a vigil on my house,” said a resident from Balajinagar. Once the police receive a request from the house owner/tenant through app, CCTV cameras would be installed at the locked houses and cameras would be connected to server located in the command centre.
The police will receive an alarm if any person tries to commit theft in the locked house. After the app was launched around 1 lakh people across the state downloaded it and 1,500 in Nellore sub-division. Residents say that there is no response after placing a request through app for police watch on their locked houses. Interestingly, the Police department had provided only 25 devices to the district police for arranging them at locked houses even though they have been receiving several requests from the people.
“There has been no response from the people as expected towards app. Still, we have to wait for some more time till the people get knowledge on the usage. At present, shortage of sim cards is also one of the reasons for failing to provide watch for longer days,” said a senior police official. Further, the Police department is also considering encouraging persons with affluent background to purchase CCTV cameras for their own use. It also relieves the department from financial crunch, according to officials.
