Kurnool: Public Accounts Committee (PAC) Chairman and YSRCP MLA Buggana Rajendranath Reddy gave a call for strengthening ponds to recharge groundwater levels. The main aim of the committee is to visit field level to know the water related issues in the district.

The PAC chief held a review meeting with officials of the Irrigation department based on the CAG report for the year 2012-2013 at State Guest House here on Tuesday. Addressing the officials, Buggana stressed on the need for reviving ponds. All the ponds need to be filled with water by utilising the available water resources, he stated.

In view of drought conditions prevailing in Rayalaseema region, he said chain-linked ponds need to be revived. He said ponds disilting has to be taken up under Neeru-Pragathi programme and digging of farm ponds is also necessary to store the rainwater. He directed the officials to geo tag boundaries of the ponds to save from encroachments.

The MLA advised the farmers, who are having more than five acres of agriculture land, to dig ponds in their lands. He also suggested the local leaders to create awareness about the farm ponds among the villagers. He instructed the officials to take back the encroached ponds.

District Collector S Satyanarayana, Joint Collector Prasanna Venkatesh, PAC members, MLAs Isaiah, Gowru Cheritha Reddy, SV Mohan Reddy, Gangula Pratap Reddy, G Jayaram, Sai Prasad Reddy, Bala Nagi Reddy, Irrigation department Superintending Engineers Siva Ram Prasad and Chandrasekhar Rao, Zilla Parishad Chief Executive Officer Eshwar, Chief Engineer Narayana Reddy, RDO Hussain Peera and other officials were present.
