A two-day workshop on protecting the children rights began here on Tuesday. The Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) and Child Fund India, an International Donor Agency, are jointly organising the workshop. The objective of this workshop is to evolve strategies with the government departments for safeguarding rights of children.

Tirupati: A two-day workshop on protecting the children rights began here on Tuesday. The Rashtriya Seva Samithi (RASS) and Child Fund India, an International Donor Agency, are jointly organising the workshop. The objective of this workshop is to evolve strategies with the government departments for safeguarding rights of children.

Participating as chief guest, RASS general secretary G Munirathnam has explained the activities of the organisation. He said, for the last 30 years, with the financial assistance of Child Fund India, the RASS has adopted about 2,000 children and implementing health and education
programmes to them.

He stated that the RASS is helping for the upliftment of families by forming women societies and providing loans to them. Child protection committees being established at village-level to protect child rights. RASS is also implementing the Right to Education Act to educate rural children,” Munirathnam added.

Child Fund India representative Varsha Sharma attended the programme as a resource person. She lauded the efforts of RASS in protecting the child rights. Child welfare Committee chairperson Ramakrishnaiah also spoke. About 45 representatives from the four states -- Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Maharashtra-- and project manager Jayachandra Naidu have participated.
