Visakhapatnam: Good news for the non-vegetarians of north Andhra Region and Rayalaseema. They are about to enjoy this Dasara with delicious dishes made from Bihar brand ram. As these animals do not command a high price back home, large number of farmers brought rams to the North Andhra and Rayalaseema areas. It is for the first time that Bihar lamb in large numbers have arrived at the Andhra Pradesh market for Dasara sales.

The meat of Bihar rams is considered to be very tasty and also fleshy. “Due to the huge number of animals being available, good price is not there in Bihar markets. During last Dasara, some of our friends brought and sold ram at attractive prices. Encouraged by this, we brought many more to the AP markets for this Dasara,” Kolerhu Sahu, one of the Biharis, who brought 25 rams to the Visakhapatnam market told The Hans India. When asked how many animals were brought to the AP market, he replied it could be in thousands.

Majority of trade unions, automobile workshops, transport companies, industries and associations are purchasing the Bihar special.

Due to its high price, the people are pooling money and purchasing the lambs. The prices of Bihari lamb ranges from minimum Rs 9,000 to Rs 30,000.

“The piece meat is little bit too hard to bite, but very tasty and healthy. With this curry, the Dasara lunch and dinner will be much richer and delicious,” Navaneetha Rao, Visakha Small and Micro Medium Industries Association working president opined.

Dasara, the second important Hindu festival after Sankranti, is celebrated by the non-vegetarians with alcohol and non-vegetarian dishes. Following a tradition, large number of people offer birds and animals to Goddess Kanakadurga. The mutton and chicken is later consumed as prasadam.
