Vijayawada: The Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) will host three-day Singapore trip exclusively for farmers who gave away their lands for Amaravati capital location.

As many as 200 farmers can visit Singapore in three phases. The CRDA wants to showcase the development of Singapore to farmers to create awareness among them.

The farmers will stay in Singapore for three nights and four days.According to sources, the government has plans to promote association between Singapore companies and farmers through the proposed visit which is scheduled to begin on October 22. The CRDA has scheduled Singapore tour of farmers in three phases from October 22 to 26,November 5 to 9 and November 19 to 23.

The CRDA officials say the farmers can gain knowledge on how to develop their plots commercially by visiting the structures and facilities in Singapore. Originally it was planned to facilitate visit of only 100 farmers but now it has been extended to 200 farmers.

The farmers should bear air charges while the government will provide local transportation facility in Singapore.
Initially, the CRDA wanted to spend the entire expenditure but it had dropped the proposal as all 22,000 farmers who gave awaytheir lands for the capital might evince interest to visit Singapore free of cost.

After taking feedback from farmers, the CRDA withdrew its free Singapore tour plans.The farmers will be selected through lottery system, if the number of interested farmers is more.In the first phase, the members of land pooling committees in all 29 villages may be given chance to visit Singapore. However, majority of the farmers do not possess passports.

Thullur ZPTC member and Amaravati Capital Farmers Association leader Bezwada Narendra speaking to The Hans India said that they want to interact with reputed Singapore companies. If anybody comes to take part in the development, some of the farmers are ready to join hands with them. But the government should create confidence, he opined.

The ZPTC member also pointed out that a majority of farmers should apply for passport. e expressed happiness over the proposed tour as it would provide an opportunity to the farmers to visit multistoried big structures.
