Nellore: Municipal administration minister P Narayana assured that the government would provide employment to jobless youth through self-employment. The state government has been considering providing excavators to unemployed youth in Nellore city and would allocate contract works for them even in construction works of capital city, he said.

Narayana held a review meeting with MEPMA groups at his camp office here on Thursday and said that they would take up ‘Sankshema Mitra’ from November 1.

The aim of the State government is to make the members of DWCRA and MEPMA industrialists and traders, the Minister said. Minister Narayana also said that majority people had received ration cards, gas and social security pensions. Only very few have applied for ration cards and majority were part of welfare schemes being implemented by the State government, he pointed out.

“State government would introduce a separate system to conduct a review on how these schemes were beneficial to the common people and officials would enquire about whether they were getting benefits or not through a process with the help of DWCRA and MEPMA groups,” he informed. He explained that underground drainage and water works in the city have been taken up at a cost of Rs 1,100 cr.

The State government had sanctioned 5.3 lakh houses and works are in progress as 9 lakh people had applied for housing under ‘Housing For All’ scheme across 110 municipalities, said Minister Narayana.

He also informed that they would sanction another 2 lakh houses by October. Municipal Administration Director Kanna Babu, MEPMA Director Chinna Tataiah, MEPMA Project Director Chiranjeevi, ZPTC member Vijetha and others were present.

The minister visited Barashaheed Dargah and inspected the ongoing development works. He also inspected the quality of works. The Minister directed the contractors and officials to speed up the works for providing basic amenities to the devotees during the Roti Festival.
