According to the police, a group of 10 friends, who were classmates in a school in Ongole planned an outing at Kothapatnam on Thursday. They reached Kothapatnam in the morning and went towards the beach. Tempted by the swaying blue waters, three of them ran into the sea. One of them stopped at waist level of water while the remaining two went deeper in a playful mood and the heavy tides of the sea dragged them further inside.

As their friends were looking at them and shouting for help, the two boys, Shaik Mohammed Altafulla, aged 18 years and native of Rangayapalem village of Kothapatnam mandal and Dala Naga Pavan Kalyan, aged 17 years and native of Ongole disappeared in the sea.

Altafulla is a second-year polytechnic student at PACE College of Engineering and Technology while Pavan Kalyan is a senior intermediate student at NRI Intermediate College at Ongole.After the marine and civil police teams launched search operation along with the local fishermen, they found the lifeless body of Altafulla in 30 minutes.

The body of Pavan Kalyan was identified around 4.5 km north to Kothapatnam beach around 5 pm. The police registered a case- 95/2017- and shifted the bodies to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences in Ongole for post-mortem and further inquiry.
