A police special investigation team under the supervision of Superintendent of Police G V G Ashok Kumar nabbed a 10-member inter-state dacoity gang engaged in house burglaries in Tamil Nadu, Karnataka and Rayalaseema districts, including Kurnool and Anantapur and seized 41 tola gold ornaments worth about Rs 40 lakh and electronic goods.

Addressing a press conference at the police conference hall here on Thursday, Ashok Kumar revealed that the dacoity gang was also engaged in treasure hunt in the district excavating ancient temples and historical buildings of Sri Krishna Devaraya era but were unsuccessful in finding the treasure.
The gang members Tirupal Naik of Kanaganapalle mandal Venkatesh alias Murgesh and P Sounderaraju of Krishnagiri district in Tamil Nadu, Paulraj Anthony and Kistappa Kiran of Benguluru, Sheik Nagur of Eluru, Sheik Ismael Basha, Mohamed Valli Basha, Veldurthi Obaiah and Damodar of Anantapur district have been nabbed by the special police team. These gang members are most wanted in Tamil Nadu and Karnataka states as well as in Anantapur.
The gang was mostly on a mission of searching for ancient treasures and in between were engaged in dacoities and house burglaries including chain snatchings. DSP Mallikharjuna Verma and circle inspectors Sai Prasad, Krishna Mohan and J.Narayana Swamy and other members of police team played a crucial role in nabbing the gang. The gang members are wanted in 30 cases of robbery. SP Ashok Kumar said that they would be produced in the court.
