Alur (Kurnool): The Excise department staff raided the thandas nearby Alur and Halaharvi and destroyed 200 litres of illicit liquor and 10,200 litres of wash.

Speaking to The Hans India, Alur Excise Sub Inspector Manjula said that she along with other staff has raided Neraniki, Harikera and Kothapeta thandas and found huge quantity of illicit liquor is being prepared.

The SI stated 18 persons were arrested and bind over cases were filed against 17 more persons. Huge quantity of illicit liquor was being prepared at these thandas in view of ensuing Devaragattu festival. These raids have been conducted on the directions of the Deputy Commissioner, she added.

She further said that the Deputy Commissioner is holding a meeting with the Andhra and Karnataka border liquor and toddy shop owners to shut down their businesses for three days, beginning from September 29 to October 1. Raids would be in force till the conclusion of Devaragattu Utsavams. She also warned of stringent action if anyone found preparing or selling the spurious liquor.
