Eluru: Superintendent of Police M Ravi Prakash said that Maoist movements were observed in some interior tribal villages of West Godavari. However, he said the police are on high alert following the information. The SP visited Velairpadu police station on Thursday and inspected the police station records.

He said the government would assist Maoists in all aspects and financial assistance would also be sanctioned to if they surrendered. He said the reward announced on the Maoists would also be given to them if they surrendered.

The SP said the tribal youth are being attracted towards the Maoists as they were alluring them in the Agency. Stating that the government has been giving top priority for welfare schemes to uplift tribals, he asked the tribes to utilise those development and welfare programmes for a better living.

The SP assured that he would consult the ITDA officers for the education and employment programmes to tribals and would take up training programme in handicrafts, carpentry, driving and painting.

As the Polavaram project was situated in the Agency, the police personnel should be on high alert at the project site, he said.
SP has directed the DSPs, CIs and SIs to conduct Jana Maitri meetings in Agency police station jurisdictions.

He assured the tribals that all the problems regarding R and R package of Polavaram project would be solved according to the Act and justice would be done to the displaced people. The SP met the Greyhounds party at the Velairpadu station and instructed them to be cautious in the Agency.
