According to police, the kidnappers used an Innova car to intercept Karim Syed Bazi and his friend Shaik Mastan at Ajit Singh Nagar at 8.30 pm on Wednesday. They bundled both Bazi and Mastan into the car by thrashing them on the road as onlookers looked on shocked. With the information provided by the onlookers to Dial 100, the police alerted their colleagues posted at the borders of the city and started searching for the kidnapped duo.
In the meantime, the kidnapped were taken to an isolated place in Chilakaluripet in Guntur district. The cops, acting at the behest of Commissioner of Police D Gautam Sawang, followed the route of the kidnappers. They swooped on the group that was torturing the duo.
Explaining the case details at a press conference, ACP VV Naidu and In-charge Inspector M Satyanarayana said that Sirama Kalyan Babu of Chilakaluripet was the main accused in the case.
He was under the impression that Bazi had cheated his father in a Rs 65 lakh deal in purchase of rice pulling machine when his father was alive a year-and-a-half ago. When Kalyan Babu asked him to pay back the money, Bazi reportedly told him that he was also a victim of Bengaluru-based man in the deal and never cheated him.
However, not convinced by Bazi’s version, he took help of brother Naga Srinu, uncle Narasimha Rao and friends Rachakonda Prasad Raju of Markapur and Nekkala Rajasekhar to kidnap Bazi. On the way to Vijayawada he also convinced the hired Innova driver G Naga Malleswara Rao to help him.
