Man sets mother, younger brother on fire
A man in his 30s and a habitual alcoholic set ablaze his 50-year-old mother and younger brother for not getting suitable alliance for marriage. His brother’s engagement was held recently. The incident took place in a remote village of Chadurumamidi of Boithela panchayat under G Madugula mandal in the Agency, about 140 km from here on Thursday night.
Visakhapatnam: A man in his 30s and a habitual alcoholic set ablaze his 50-year-old mother and younger brother for not getting suitable alliance for marriage. His brother’s engagement was held recently. The incident took place in a remote village of Chadurumamidi of Boithela panchayat under G Madugula mandal in the Agency, about 140 km from here on Thursday night.

Both the victims were asleep when the man attacked them. Identified as Anuguru Srinu, he also injured his father with a stick when he came on his way.
The woman and son are battling for life with severe burn injuries in Paderu Area Hospital. Both the victims, who sustained serious burns had to wait writhing in pain till the ambulance arrived on Friday, hours after the incident took place.
Boithela is a very remote panchayat with no telephone facility too. The village is also under the shadow zone for cell services.
Villagers reached the G Madugula police station in the morning by trekking and informed the police.
Soon after receiving information, the police sent a vehicle to bring the two injured persons and admitted them to the Paderu Area Hospital, said sub-inspector K Srinivas of G Madugula police station.
The SI said Srinu is a habitual drunkard and hence he was not getting alliances. He had been harassing his parents for marriage. Recently, his younger brother Chantibabu got engaged to a girl from the same village. Srinu went into depression and stepped up his harassment on the parents for marriage.
On Thursday, he came home drunk to the brim and picked up an argument with his mother Chittemma about his marriage. Chittemma advised him to give up drinking and change his behaviour if he wanted to get married. When the entire family went to sleep, Srinu doused his mother and brother with kerosene.
Smelling kerosene, his father Appa Rao woke up and tried to prevent him from lighting. But, he beat him with a stick and pushed him away before setting them ablaze.
The police registered a case of attempt to murder (IPC 307) and causing injuries to persons through a rash act (IPC 337). Srinu was taken into custody. The doctors at Paderu Area Hospital said the condition of both the victims was critical.
