Visakhapatnam: The Indian Green Building Society has asked the state government to offer incentives to the IGBC rated green building projects on the lines of the other states.

Representatives of IGBC felt that the green building concept is not picking up fast in Andhra Pradesh compared to other states and it has become very necessary to think on green building concept.

Rajasthan, West Bengal and Uttar Pradesh and Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority have been providing incentives to the green buildings. Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, the co-chairman, IGBC-Visakhapatnam Chapter, K Leela Prasad, said that they have submitted a representation to municipal administration and Urban Development Minister P Narayana during the launch of IGBC Amaravati Chapter in June 2017, requesting incentives to green buildings.

It has been under active consideration of the state government, he added. Chairman, IGBC-Visakhapatnam Chapter, Dr S Vijay Kumar, said that the green building movement in India stands tall with over 4,205 building projects amounting to over 4.63 billion square feet of built-up area registered with IGBC.

Vizag Conventions gets IGBC’s Silver Rank

Vizag Conventions (Convention Centre) located at PM Palem area in Vizag city has got silver ranking in the Indian Green Building Council’s rating system. Vizag Conventions was the first centre in Andhra Pradesh that got the rank. The rating enables the project team to address national priories like water efficiency, energy efficiency, handling of consumer waste and conserving natural resources.

Expressing delight over green achievement, Managing Director of Vizag Conventions PV Narasimha Rao said that green building cost just 10 per cent higher than the normal buildings. He said that the green buildings are not only cost-effective in the long run but also helps owners to maintain good health, apart from helping to preserve the environment by saving light and water.
