He is expecting two lakh tourists this Dasara season.Starting from this Dasara, people from all over the country are likely to visit this season as more attractions are being added. But Bengalis will outnumber the others. They have been looking for new destinations as they are fed up with Digha Beach in their home state, Puri, Konarak and Varanasi, the nearest destinations to their home state.

“A hotel manager said except Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the whole Bengal seems to have arrived here,’’ Naidu said. He also added that road shows were conducted in different parts of country to popularise Vizag.

A star hotel last decade popularised Visakhapatnam city by advertising in Bengali papers. Since then the people have been visiting city and nearby resorts which include Araku Valley, Borra Caves, Ananthagiri in the agency and Yarada near steel plant.

However, the main attraction remained the RK Beach where Kalimatha temple and Ramakrishna Mission are located. As a part of asthami, many tourists offered their prayers at Kalimatha temple and Simhachalam.

Impressed with the steady growth of tourists from West Bengal, the APTDC is now planning to appoint Bengali cooks in their resorts and set up exclusive restaurants on the Beach Road which could serve fish and other dishes relished by Bengalis. There are about 90 guest houses at the RK Beach mostly catering to the needs of the Bengali tourists.

Travel operators have been insisting on organised tours of popular resorts with guides who can explain the importance of the local tradition and culture and food parlours suiting their needs.Other than West Bengal, people from Chhattisgarh, Odisha and Telangana area have also arrived in the city during last two days.
