Kurnool: The news of patient’s case sheets missing in Gynaecology ward of Kurnool Government General Hospital has created panic on Saturday. Gynaecology ward, known for infant stealing in the past is one of the overcrowded medical wards among other wards in the hospital.

On any given point of time, more than 500 patients could be found here while the hospital has got strength of 250 beds, said a staff nurse on condition of anonymity.

The negligent attitude of Kurnool General Hospital has forced a woman patient Bhagyamma and her relatives to stage a sit in front of hospital and demand the retrieval of her case sheet.

When asked what action was taken by the Hospital Superintendent, Dr P Chandrasekhar said the records were jumbled in the stack. There was no problem with the treatment, he said. Now it was found that there was no issue at all, the Superintendent added.

There were cases of several missing babies recorded in this ward. At present, this ward has six units and nearly 250 beds are available here and all beds are full.

He further said that the ward draws nearly 500 out-patients every day that used to visit for regular medical check-ups and on some days the number goes up to 600.

On some occasions, the figure even goes up as high when the patients from the neighbouring AP Pradesh and some other districts in Telangana visit. But the facility at the ward was created for 100 in-patients, 70 years ago. Presently, the pregnant women and new mother were being adjusted in one bed, added Dr Chandrasekhar.
