Amaravati: Enthused with the tangible results in the area of energy efficiency and energy conservation during the last three years in the State, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu moved a step further and directed the officials of energy department to devise a special package with energy efficient appliances for households of all sections.

The appliances should be capable of saving electricity thus reducing the electricity bills of every household that uses them considerably. CM further asked the officials to prepare an action plan within 15 days for the implementation of the scheme.

To discuss the details of energy efficiency in the backdrop of the scheme, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu conducted a teleconference on Sunday with ministers concerned and higher officials. On the occasion, the Chief Minister said, “Energy saving is as necessary as energy production for development of any society. It is a much needed crucial global phenomenon.

This could be a stepping stone for sustainable development. We have been implementing energy efficiency activities with innovation. Our intention is to achieve integrated development through energy efficiency. As part of that, government plans to give a package of energy efficient electrical appliances to the people.”

The package consists of different kits with different numbers of star rated fans, LED tube lights, LED bulbs in each kit, if possible any other appliance. The cost of the appliances will be less than the market price and they also will be of a better quality.

There should be no compromise on the quality of the appliances. If people use them, electricity bill reduction should be a certainty and thus the scheme would be pro-public.

Every household could buy kits of their necessity and economic viability. In addition to the package, Andhra Pradesh State Energy Efficient Development Corporation (APSEEDCO), Energy Department, offers consultancy services to the electricity consumers.

The ways and means of usage of energy efficient appliances and the information of saving energy could be given. If a customer uses an air conditioner, the consultancy service shall offer the information about the difference between energy efficient device and a lesser efficient device as well as the electricity consumption that can be reduced by the consumer with star rated device. Short and long term plans will be made for domestic, agriculture, industries, commercial and rural street light programmes”.

Responding to CM, Energy Minister Kala Venkat Rao informed that each kit in the proposed package can save energy to a certain extent and the electricity bills of consumers shall be reduced at least by 34 per cent.

The Chief Minister also asked the officials to work out a proposal to offer all energy efficient appliances on equal monthly installments, which would be billed to their electricity bills.

PR, RD and IT Minister Nara Lokesh informed the Chief Minister that 35 to 40 lakh LED street lights will be installed in 13,500 villages of the State in three phases.

The process of installing 10 lakh LED street lights in villages in five districts; Anantapur, Kadapa, Chittoor, Vizianagaram and East Godavari in first phase will begin soon.

Nara Lokesh gave the details of estimates, which stated that if installed, LED street lights could save Rs 669 crore in 10 years and 444 million units of electricity per annum. Municipal Administration Minister P Narayana and several officials were present in the meeting.
