Kurnool: Vexed with the harassment for dowry and refusal of her husband to set up family where he was working, a 26-year-old woman hanged herself at her parents’ house at Lakshminagar here on Friday morning. Her husband, Khaza Hussain, of Hussainapur of Banaganapalle mandal in the district, is working as a police sub-inspector at Gudibanda in Anantapur district.

According to SI P Srinivasulu, Anjuman Begum was married to Khaza Hussain one-and-a-half- years ago. Since the marriage she was staying with her in-laws’ house while her husband was away at his place of work. He refused to take her to Gudibanda and insisted that she stay with his parents. Following dispute over this, he recently left Begum at her parents’ house in Lakshminagar and demanded her father S Mohammed Basha that he should pay Rs 5 lakh to buy a piece of land.

According to a complaint lodged by Basha with the police, Begum’s in-laws had also tortured her mentally for not yet bearing children. “Unable to bear the agonly Anjuman Begum committed suicide by hanging to the ceiling fan at her parents house,” said SI Srinivasulu. The body was sent for post-mortem and case of dowry harassment has been registered on the basis of the complaint lodged by the woman’s father.
