Visakhapatnam: Fivefamous rockets and three prestigious satellites will be displayed at DrLankapalliBullayya College here on October 8 and October 9 as part of the World Space Week celebrations.

Chairman of Celebrations Committee and senior scientist G Suryanarayana told reporters on Saturday that the World Space Week celebrations will be organsied in a grand manner to attract the students and public. Stating the World Space Week began on October 4, he said Bullayya College would be hosting the event for two days--Sunday and Monday.

As part of the celebrations, on Saturday evening, space awareness rally was taken out from Bullayya College to RTC complex.
Scientists from Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) SHAR, Indian Space Research Organisation would be present.

The event is conducted throughout the world to popularise the application of technology. United Nations Organisation has passed a resolution many years back for conducting the event every year from October 4 to October 10.

Suryanarayana said till 2015, the event was limited to ISRO, Nellore district. Since last year, with the encouragement from Centre Director Dr P Kunni Krishnan, the activities are being spread to some more locations.

“Last year, this event was conducted at 15 venues in three states--Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Tamil Nadu. This year, we further augmented our programmes to 22 more venues in five states by adding Puducherry and Orissa states,’’ Suryanarayana said.

He said ISRO is continuously making efforts for educating public on the benefits being presented to them by this organisation and for creating interest on space technology among tender minds.

A group of 16 scientists from SDSC, SHAR, have been assigned the responsibility of conducting the event at Rajahmundry and Visakhapatnam.
Senior scientist from ISRO, Raghu said the programme at Rajahmundry on October 5 and October 6 was a grand success. Now it is being organised in the city.
As part of this programme, models of rockets, satellites and photos related to ISRO will be displayed.

“We are also planning to conduct various competitions to encourage young students. On Sunday, we will have an inaugural session with the HRD Minister GantaSrinivasa Rao and MP Dr K Haribabu attending as chief guests. One of group Directors APrasada Rao will be participating in the inaugural function,’’ Suryanarayana said.
Secretary and correspondent of BullayyaCollege Dr G Madhukar and Director Academics Dr KSN Satyanarayana were present.
