Rajamahendravaram: Increasing dog menace in the historical city posing a problem to the people, mainly in night time. It is not an easy task to walk in the city in the night time, including on main roads.

As many as 12,000 stray dogs were identified in the Rajamahendravaram Municipal Corporation (RMC) limits. The people are expressing concern over growing dog population in the city. Many accidents are occurring in the night time as the dogs are chasing vehicle riders in the night time.
Speaking to The Hans India, RMC Health Officer Dr Ogirala Indira said the animal birth control operations were performed to 6,000 dogs out of 12,000 stray dogs by Jeeva Raksha Samsta (JRS) with the help of RMC.

Animal Welfare Board pays an amount of Rs 450 to each surgery. Surgeries were performed during 2014 and 2015 and later in a small scale. At present JRS stopped the surgeries and RMC initiating steps to conduct the operations.

RMC is administering Rabis vaccine to the dogs in the city as a pre-cautionary measure and the injections are available in all corporation hospitals in the city.
A house wife M Lakshmi of Aryapuram said the RMC has failed to control dog menace and the parents are not sending their children lonely on the roads in night time. The same problem prevailed in Krishna Nagar, Lalitha Nagar, Innispeta, Ademma Dibba also along with other areas in the city.
